Lumecca targets superficial vascular and pigmented lesions utilizing a process called photothermolysis. The areas that deviate in pigment from your natural skin tone will inherently absorb more light than the surrounding areas, concentrating the heat and localizing the effect of the IPL. The concentrated heat results in coagulation of lesions and their eventual disappearance in the following weeks.

Common treatment areas include: face, chest, and back of hands.

We will not treat areas with a fresh tan, or over tattoos or permanent makeup. If you have a fresh tan we will reschedule you, and with regard to tattoos or permanent make up, we can wrap the area and go well around the area. If you suffer from facial melasma, IPL may not be a good option for you. Melasma is unpredictable as it is a condition controlled by hormones and may often reoccur. Furthermore, the response in unpredictable at times lesions lightening, or even lesions may darken. We have other options available for the treatment of Melasma, please speak to one of our skin experts to explain the different options.

- Avoid any type of tanning 3-4 weeks prior to treatment,

- Avoid irritant topical agents for 2-3 days before treatment,

- Avoid anticoagulants for 7-10 days prior to treatment, if medically permitted

It is possible that areas being treated have the risk of hair loss, temporary or permanent. We wills stay away from eyebrows, tattoos, or permanent make-up as well.

IPLs will see results as soon as 1 treatment, typically a series of 3 is appropriate, then yearly treatments for maintenance.

Sun block should be used for 3 weeks (and forever) following each treatment session.

Moisturizer may be applied after each treatment.

Make-up may be applied immediately after the treatment if skin is intact.

Mild redness and Swelling may occur after treatment but will subside quickly and may even be covered up by makeup as long as it is applied gently and carefully and removed with the same care

Freckles and age spots may appear darker for up to a week after treatment.

In the event that crusting happens to occur, it should subside within 10 days.
